Paleo Diet and Diabetes

The Paleo diet is short for (palaeolithic diet ) which is believed to be the diet that the cave people use to consume.

The idea behind the palaeolithic diet is that the foods that the caveman and the cave woman ate was good for the health because it was foods that the human body was meant to eat.

The Palaeolithic diet is thought to be ideal for people with diabetes.

What is a Paleo diet?

On the palaeolithic diet the way that it is categories is into two groups of food, in and out. 

The foods below are foods that are from the pre-agriculture/ animal food such as:

  • Meat
  • Fish
  • Shellfish
  • Eggs
  • Tree nuts
  • Vegetables
  • Roots
  • Fruit
  • Berries
  • Mushrooms

The food that are consider “Out foods” are foods from the Neolithic era foods, which are from either agriculture or domesticated animals. 

If you do cut most of these “out foods” out of your diet you will remove the bad aspects of a Western diet. 

Why would you start on Palaeolithic diet?

The reason why most people start doing the paleolithic diet is to return to their roots and eat more healthily. 

Most experts of this diet believe that the human genome was compatible with his paleolithic diet for 40,000 years, and they also believe that the reason for most diseases of today are due to our foods from a western diet. 

Why is the Paleo Diet Ideal for Diabetics?

The palaeolithic diet is a low carb diet which is therefore ideal diet for diabetics.With the palaeolithic diet the ingredients are all low on the glycemic index,this in turn put a less of a demand on the pancreas which you then could reduce the amount of medication needed to control your diabetes.
