Metabolism Boosting Foods For Diabetics

If you’re a type 2 diabetic and had the choice to select metabolism boosting foods or a metabolism boosting pill, which one would you prefer? 

I hope you said metabolism boosting foods, you would opt to boost your metabolism naturally by eating the right food.

With control your blood sugar, eating healthy and selection the right foods, you can increase the calories you burn.

The more calories you burn the quicker you can reach your weight loss goals and control your diabetes.

Keeping your metabolism up will help you burn more calories during the day.

So when planning your next meal, go ahead and add these food to your meal to boost your metabolic rate.

Whole Grain Cereals / Oatmeal

As a type 2 diabetics we should eat more complex carbohydrates and high fibers in grain cereals it helps boost your metabolism naturally by slow down the release of insulin that helps controls your blood sugar.

The lower production of insulin helps to keep your metabolism going and your blood sugar in control.

When your pancreas produce more insulin, your body receives a signal to start storing food as you burn fewer calories during this time.

Your metabolism must be slowed down in order for you body to store fat so you therefore are burning fewer calories during this time.

So by eating these metabolism boosting foods, you will be slowing down the production of the insulin and increasing your metabolism.

Low Fat Yogurt / Skim Milk

Green tea has a component called Epigallo Catechin, EGCG for short.

EGCG is believed to be the main ingredient that that boost your metabolism. and helps in weight loss.

In addition, green tea and coffee has caffeine.

Caffeine speed up your heart rate, the faster your heart beats the faster your metabolism.

Caffeine also has been shown to increase contraction. So not only do you get a increase metabolism rate, you also get a great concentration throughout the day

Grapefruit / Oranges

You know that vitamin C help boost your immune system, but did you know the Vitamin C is the secret ingredient to these metabolism boosting foods and is said to have some fat burning qualities.

The fruit that is considered to be a great weight loss food is  grapefruit which is packed with vitamin c.

One research at the Scripps Clinic shown that participants that included ½ a grapefruit to each meal lost weight.

Although the Grapefruit Diet is considered a “fad” diet, there is some merits to the weight loss results of eating grapefruits.

Jalapeno / Habanera / Cayenne

Take a chance and spice up your food with some hot peppers. By add these hot peppers to your foods you naturally boost up your metabolism.

The reason is because they have a thermogenic property which heat up your body. The way to cool down is that your body requires calories to do so, meaning an increase in your metabolism. 

Not only does these peppers are a great metabolism booster foods, they also add great flavor to your recipes, so why not get cooking and add some of these hot peppers to your meals.

Lean Proteins - Metabolism Boosting Foods

Lean proteins like beef, turkey, pork, chicken and certain fish are great metabolism booster foods.

Protein is the main ingredients in these food that will help you boost up your metabolic rate. Did you know that protein need more effort to digest than carbs or fat.

This mean your body is working much harder to digest the protein, in these metabolism booster foods which in turn burns more calories.

Fish is another great source of protein when prepared in a healthy way, foods like salmon and tuna not only rev up your metabolism but it’s a great source of Omega 3.

There are a few studies that shown that omega 3 fatty acids can alter the level of a hormone in your body called leptin. In these studies indicate that leptin can have an impact on your metabolism by deterring if your body should store your calories as fat or burn it.

So the higher levels of leptin means more food is stored as fat or a lower metabolism. But lower levels of leptin means a higher metabolism and fish is a great source to lower your leptins.

Also as a side note Omega-3 it’s also shown to reduce the risk of certain cancers.


Vegetable are a great source of vitamins and minerals and also are a great source of low calories foods that will keep you satisfy and make you feel full.

There are a few vegetables that are great metabolism booster foods such as broccoli and Spinach.

Spinach contains a mineral called magnesium that is know to boost the body’s fat burning process. Some other food that are high in magnesium are peanut butter, tofu, whole wheat bread and dark chocolate.

Spinach have some other great mineral like potassium which aids in weight loss by keeping the body’s cell’s hydrated. If your cells aren’t properly hydrated your metabolism will slow down. Here are some other great food rich in potassium like bananas, honeydew and baked potatoes.

Apples / Pears

Apples & Pears made the list of fruits that are high in fiber and are great metabolism booster foods. These fruits will satisfy your sweet taste and help to keep you full longer due to the high fiber and lower calorie.

According to a study from the State University of Rio de Janeiro, In the study they had women consume apples and pears in their low calorie diet lost more weight that women who did add fruit to their weight loss plan.
