Understanding Diabetes Risk Factors

There are a number of diabetes risk factors for type 2 diabetics. Although some risk are genetics many of the can be prevented.

When it comes to diabetes most people do not know or understand what the sign are, so below are a list of the top type 2 diabetics risk factors.

Obesity and Diabetes

Obesity is a major factor for type 2 diabetes, with over a millions of people in the world.

As per Forbes magazine, Canada ranks 33 on a 2007 list of the fattest countries with 61% of the population having a BMI (Body mass index) of at least 25 and higer.

Furthermore, this number keeps on climbing with both Adults and children.

The number in children being diagnosed with type 2 diabetes caused by obesity it's climbing. Did you know obesity in children has  increased between 2 to 13% from 1998 to 2004.

Sedentary Lifestyle - Diabetes Risk Factors

Living a sedentary life without much exercise is another risk factor that seriously damaging to health.

When you’re not active it tends to lead to being overweight which can lead to type 2 diabetes.

So being active decrease the insulin resistance and help the body use insulin more effectively.

Poor Diet

Eating unhealthy is a major key when it comes to type 2 diabetes, with 90% of type 2 diabetes being overweight.

A poor diet usually consist of processed foods, poor quality fat and very little fibre content, is thought to be a major key to diabetes and metabolic syndrome.

Eating Healthy With Diabetes and a  combination of exercise can greatly reduce the development of type 2 diabetes.

Choosing a healthy diet can sometimes be hard and confusing, with so much information and very little so called "diabetics food" eating healthy may not be an option.

High Blood Pressure

High cholesterol and blood pressure levels is a risk for many diabetics,one of then being type 2 diabetes. Also these two risk symptoms are a major problem for pre-diabetes

Gestational Diabetes

Gestational diabetes is another risk factor that affects about 2 to 5% of women who are pregnant.

Women that do develop Gestational  diabetes have a great chance of developing type 2 diabetes, as well as their children.

Family history

A family history of type 2 diabetes is another major risk factor. 

The sad thing about having a close family member with type 2 diabetes is there isn't much that you can done about it, but you can be aware of the symptoms of type 2 diabetes.

Also many ethnic minorities are more prone to suffer from diabetes.

Getting Older and Diabetes Risk Factors

As the population is getting older and people are living longer, diabetes is on the rise.

With that fact, the older you are the greater the risk of getting type 2 diabetes is. As you get older the pancreas produce less insulin as most scientist found out  as we age.

In addition, our bodies are more resistance to insulin increases with age.
